Since starting my health and fitness journey a couple of years ago, I’ve made a point to read about personal development every day. Well, I try to read a few pages or posts every day at least! Honestly, I believe the reason I was never successful with my weight-loss in the past was that I focused only on my external appearance. In the past, I didn’t make an attempt to heal myself on the inside. I now know that healing yourself from the inside out is such an important part of a health journey. Maybe even the most important part!
Why Personal Development?
Personal development is any activity that furthers self-awareness, improves identity, or fosters talents. Basically, it’s a lifetime process to make yourself a better human being! Furthermore, personal development has so many benefits, such as employability, improving health, improving wealth, fulling life aspirations and so much more.
There are lots of ways to improve your personal development. And there is a method for every learning style:
- Reading about the area you want to improve
- Finding a mentor
- Journalling each day
- Watching documentaries on relevant topics
- Finding a support group to help push/pull/train with you
- Spend time with role models
- Physical fitness and exercising willpower
- And more!
Everyone has room for limitless growth!
Motivational Books For Your Health Journey
Personally, one of my favorite ways to improve myself and my health journey is to read. The reason being that I can pick up a book, read a few pages, and set it down again if I’m busy or get interrupted. Books make it really easy to squeeze in at least 15 minutes of personal development every day. Check out this list of must-read personal development books!
- Mindful Eating, Mindful Life by Thich Nhat Hanh is a must ready for any weight-loss and health journey. This book combines nutrition science with mindfulness teachings to help readers reach a healthy weight and well-being. Mindful Eating, Mindful Life speaks to the way our culture approaches food and nutrition and helps provide a new way of thinking.
- Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis is everywhere right now. This book tackles the lies we tell ourselves. You know, those lies that hold us back from being our very best selves, the lies that are driven by fear. This book alone won’t change your life, rather it encourages you and gives you the strength to change your own life.
- The Gifts of Imperfections by Brené Brown. I am a huge fan of Brené Brown which is why more than one of her books is on this list. This book challenges the reader to overcome their paralyzing fears and rather strengthen their connection to the world. Brown’s book focuses on wholehearted living (I love that phrase!!), authenticity, and living a perfectly imperfect life.
- Start Where You Are by Meera Lee Patel is an interactive journal designed to help the reader explore their creativity, mindfulness, and self-motivation. This book encourages you to slow down and truly get to know yourself.
- Dare to Lead: Brave Work, Tough Conversations, Whole Hearts by Brené Brown is my current read. This book is about living mindfully and bravely in every aspect of your life, including work. For many people, work is a huge part of their life and identity. Brown talks about what it means to create a safe and meaningful culture with bravery and vulnerability.
- Be Fearless: 5 Principles for a Life of Breakthroughs and Purpose by Jean Case is my up-coming read! This book is a call to action to live an extraordinary life. Be Fearless is for people who not only want to change themselves but who want to change the world. This book explores the qualities of great change, being bold and conquering fear.
